One of the things that is great about CES is that we get to run into all of our favorite mobile blogging peers, Brad from Liliputing told us about his hands on with the AA Battery Powered NorhTec Gecko Edubook at CES 2010. We didn’t get a chance to make it to their booth so we thoroughly enjoyed this video. To tell you a bit more about the unit it self, the OS and all the data is stored on an SD card, which makes it easy to upgrade. And the CPU and RAM are on a single chip which you can pop out and replace just as easily as changing a stick of RAM.
You can read Brad full review of the unit here and you’ll find the video below if all you want to do is watch him change the O/S by taking it apart and swapping the SD card. In the video Brad will also walk you through several webpages and a few applications to show you an almost zippy experience!
To give you a little something to compare it to here is another video of the AA Battery Powered NorhTec Gecko Edubook running XP. Even after he made a few tweaks to the O/S it still runs significantly slower then Puppy Linux.
UpLinq 2010 in San Diego June 30- July 1, 2010 was full of innovative products and devices. Netbook News was there to capture innovations around mHealth with the Dexcon Wireless Bandaid Offers 7 Days Glucose Monitoring and Bluetooth stethoscopes. Snapdragon tablets are the talk of the town but not at UpLinq, but we did get a hands on with the Snapdragon SDK on the MSM8655 handheld device. Another advancement that it was good to see was around Augmented Reality, Mattel has come out with a remake of the 1960s game Rockem’ Sockem’ whose effects are visually stunning.
