This year’s CES has been dubbed “The Year Of The Tablet”, and on the face of things it’s hard to disagree. So many tablets and MIDs were shown off it’s hard to keep tabs on them all. Here are a few of the best that we managed to check out -
- The Lenovo Ideapad S10-3T Netvertible
- The Hanvon 10.1″ Touchpad, a very polished looking slate from China.
- The Viliv N5 4.8″ MID, a nice little model with Wifi, 3G and GPS.
- Freescale 7″ Tablet Reference Design, a really cool little tablet design with dockable keyboard / charging station.
- The Lenovo U1 Hybrid Notebook / Tablet, the same basic idea as the Freescale above, but in a slightly more powerful configuration.
This year also saw several interesting display technologies being shown, most notably Pixel Qi’s screen which goes all the way from a full colour LCD to a low power, black and white e-reader style screen. See the video here.
Acer showed a new monitor which incorporates some new Freescale tech to embed widgets and multimedia playback into the screen itself – lets hope this technology makes its way to a tablet double quick; video here.
And lastly from the “I really want that” department, the transparent OLED display.
Another running theme at this years show was the entire world updating their Netbook lines to incorporate the new Pine Trail N450 processors, which don’t offer a huge speed bump, but do up battery life considerably. I won’t bother naming them individually, but if you were eyeing a Netbook before CES, chances are its now available with the new chip.
