Portablemonkey has kindly translated a post from Japanese website Ascii.jp that gives some more detailed information about Broadcom’s Crystal HD decoder card, which is a mini PCI Express card that has found its way into upcoming netbooks from HP and Acer. This card has a lot of potential in the netbook market when it comes to decoding HD video, such as YouTube HD (or any other HD Flash video), H.264, MPEG-2 and VC-1. There’s still a lot of work to be done on software compatibility, but hopefully Broadcom can get wide support for its platform.
