Intel has posted a video alongside with the slides from its UMG event at Computex 2009 covering the Intel Atom processor and what we have to look forward to within the next couple of years. Anand Chandrasekher from Intel talked a lot about x86 compatebility, which is something that’s key to Intel of course, but Intel is trying to claim that x86 is key to small mobile internet devices and we’re not sure that this really is the case. It’s more about software development for other devices in our opinion and we have a feeling that ARM will have a thing or two to say about this. A lot of the presentation also coveres new software for MID’s and netbooks and what these type of devices are capable of.
The second half of the presentation talks about Moorestown, which is the next generation of Intel’s Atom platform. Anand also talked about 3G connectivity on upcoming devices that they’ve worked together with Ericsson on. A Moblin 2 beta demo was also part of the presentation, as Intel sees this as a key part of the next generation mobile internet devices. Several new MID devices from a wide range of partners were also shown of which all will be running Moblin.
