You can already visit the Chromium blog to meet up with slews of others that have already hacked Google’s O/S onto existing netbooks. But what’s really peaked our interest is the Chrome OS netbooks that the software giant has planned for next year. According to our sister site Netbook News.de, the company is in talks with a number of outfits in order to bring at least a few sub-$300 options to the market that are well suited to power through its first non-mobile operating system. We are expecting to see some competition to the Intel Atom with this 10.1-inch machine being ARM-based, while NVIDIA’s Tegra platform (likely the second generation) will take the lead with graphics needs. We can also expect Google to enter into the Tablet game with a multitouch panel: 1,280 x 720 resolution; 64GB SSD; WiFi; 2GB of RAM; 3G; Bluetooth; Ethernet port; a few USB ports; a webcam; 3.5mm audio jack; a multi-card reader; 4 or 6 cell battery; the option for GPS.
What’s hard to believe is that all this is meant to be $200 and will be available through Google own website, which seems to be the trend like Fusion Garage has done with the Joojoo tablet. It nice to see Google taking the lead on the low end market with out Windows, if anyone can take the average users hand down the garden path of other then windows, I’d put my money on Google.
