Don’t want to Pay? Free Alternative Operating System

BUT if you don’t want to pay for an upgrade and are willing to give something new a try Jolicloud is a free operating system that’s worth a whirl. I think you might be impressed, Jolicloud is a new operating system that has a focus of being online, in the cloud. Now before you run to the hills screaming ‘Sometimes I’m not online, Sometimes I can’t get my wirelss working!! I can’t leave Windows’, you know what… Jolicloud is easy to use and install and is actually made for netbooks not made to limit them!! It even comes with this easy to use USB if you can’t figure out how to get your netbook online to download it directly.

Jolicloud USB Creator Preview

Jolicloud has been designed to make sure you can connect and collaborate efficiently, and easily share with your Facebook friends and other Joliclouders. It has a special focus on programs that you might find online, kinda good for discovering new things to do online, especially if you are someone who doesn’t know much about that internet thing.  Jolicloud is not bound to being a online only operating system, it has an interface or a linux back end that organizes things into functions, what applications do. This is the trend for the plethora of operating systems, that they give you easy access to what you do most. For most people that’s social networking, getting on facebook, twitter, email, photo sharing. If you are more then the average user, you won’t be bored by Jolicloud.  What you can do with the applications store is more advanced then any other cloud based operating currently on the market, even though its still in Beta.

Want to take a quick look at a few video’s we have shot of this cloud based O/S?? Here you go! The first video is a walk through of the operating system, what you would get if you were not online. The second is a video of the applications and the way that Jolicloud organizes them inside the operating system.

Keeping Your Computer Safe

I’m just going to quickly rattle off my standard suggestions and recommendations. First I have to I’m not going to rhyme of any free ones, I’m going to go with my top pick, Kasperski’s Internet Security for Ultra Portables.  But here are my reasons why and what I think of a few other Security Programs out there.

1. I dont usually recommend AVG, because it lacks effectiveness in the detection (just because its well-known doesnt mean its good for you ….)
2. I dont think heavy products like Panda, BitDefender, Norton, Mcafee fit your netbook needs because it takes too much ram and computer performance isnt as high on a netbook as on a notebook or desktop. Kaspersky doesnt slow your computer that much. Why? Mostly, because Kaspersky doesnt have any unnecessary features like Cleaner. Why? because those arent their thing. If they include those features, they’d have to raise the cost, and those cleaner probably wont work as effective as Auslogic Boostspeed or other products.
3. It only takes Kaspersky about 30 min to run a deep scan ( which covers system memory, startup objects, system backup storage, all hard drives, all removable drives, all network drives) but your computer is new which would take way faster

Your netbook will slow down in the future … Viruses and trojans are part of the reason your computer slow down. Other reasons might be there are too many files in your hard drive. How fast it slows your computer down depends on how you keep it.

Here is a link to their comparison chart, and here is a link for you to download off based on your geographic region but it will run you around $60.

This has been a look at a few things you’ll be netbook savy knowing about!

Hi. I'm trying to find the answer to this question. You say no dvd playback, but what if I have an external dvd drive and want to use it to install various software programs. Will I be able to do that? Is the limitation only for watching a dvd movie? Thanks!

Just watching, you’ll be able to use it to install programs.

    Hey,

Im 15 and just bought one of the new Dell Mini 10's with Atom N450 1.6, 1 gig etc.
I currently have the option that i can upgrade from the starter that is installed to either home premium or proffessional (i wud probably use professional) for $30. I was just wondering if this is worth my money, will aero run properly, will it slow my system down etc.

    Thank You,
    Joshua

It is worth your money. It is a small price to pay to have a fully functioning operating system!!
