Before the first generation Tegra has even really got out of the starting blocks (Zune HD aside), Nvidia, it would seem, it gearing up to show a next-generation system-on-a-chip at CES.
The Tegra 2 is set to be a dual-core chip, and Nvidia aims make it twice as fast as it’s predecessor. Teasing the announcement, Nvidia’s Michael Hara had this to say -
“At CES we are going to make a major announcement about Tegra family. It is highly possible that we will see some very interesting form-factors coming out at the same time. [There will be products] shown by our partners using the next-generation Tegra device. You are going to see roll-outs and deployments of tablet PCs, smartbooks, netbooks, MIDs throughout the first half [of next year]; and then you will see major roll-outs of smartphones in the second half,”
With Nvidia taking a slightly different approach to SoC designs than, for instance, Qualcomm – believing that processing power should come before integration – it remains to be seen if the market will adopt the Tegra or its new older brother, but Nvidia is certainly banking on it, aiming for total Tegra revenues of $100million by the end of fiscal 2011.
