During GigaOM Mobilize we took a look at the new Malata T9000 Smartbook which is running on a Marvell Armada 166 platform, sports an 8GB SSD with a screen resolution of 1024 x 600. The unit comes preloaded with a variety of games dictionary, music, audio, video and photo playback as well as learning materials which include Chinese, Maths, English & Encyclopedia. We aren’t sure what kind of operating system this smartbook its running, but its not Android and appears to be a custom linux. Before we shot the video we were given inaccurate information and apologies for thinking it was the Armada 600, it is the Armada 166, but don’t let that distract you from this interesting education based smartbook!
Something else that is pretty interesting is that this smartbook is essentially the ASUS Seashell that has been on a diet! Its twice as thin as the original SeaShell but has the exact same profile. It might be time to keep an eye on what kind of designs Pegatron is releasing over the next few months if a manufacturer is already rolling them out to the market.
The Malata T9000 is for sale in the China market with ADSL contracts, although we don’t have any additional information in pricing.
